When I calculated how much money I have been spending on Starbucks/Costa/Gloria Jeans/Caribou/etc., I got scared. It’s a pretty decent percentage of my food and beverage budget.
I am not going to get into the details of whether having so much coffee is “healthy” or not.
The fact remains, I am a coffee lover, a coffee addict, if you may call it. I am happy the way it is now, as it is now because let’s face it, coffee makes me happy, and makes me even happier when I couple it with chocolate.
But then, comes times, where having a coffee at a coffee shop is not because you want to have your irresistible coffee from Starbucks. Dont’t get me wrong. I am a fan, and basically, the money is what’s making me “skip” the Starbucks line.
Besides, I have mastered making great coffee at home, so that should count for something. Chapeu for myself maybe?
Ok, so back to the other story, there comes times when I go to a Starbucks-like coffee place, and make, well, the not so cost-effective coffee beverage purchase.
So, why do I do that?
It comes down to social situations, you want to catch up with a friend in between meals, you want to have an informal meeting at work to be more “casual”, or it can be something like I am having a long drive between cities, and I don’t want to fall asleep driving. That’s definitely not a social situation, but rather a safety one. I mean, I would use any excuse to have good coffee. Wouldn’t you?
The bottom line is, even though, I have made the conscious decision to skip the Starbucks line, it is still going to be part of my life. Maybe, not in the more consistent, daily sense routine, but definitely much less than before — that’s for sure.
